“This drawing originated from an insecurity of mine. I found a hard time fitting into the U.S due to my Asian ethnicity and appearance. I would always question myself, “Is being Asian something to be ashamed of?” I spent these past 2 years exploring the beauty of my homeland China trying to prove to the people who cannot accept me that my identity is just as worthy. The jewelry in this drawing symbolizes the beauty, confidence, meaning and pride I found in myself as a Chinese living being. In the process, I started to further embrace authenticity since it is the major objective expressed in this drawing. I hope this can influence others who are torn apart for being who they are. I hope this can empower the pressured and to remind each person that culture is special in their own way.
